چکیده

1 Currently two projects are on their way to standardize physical layer and medium access control for wireless LANs-IEEE 802.11 and ETSI RES10 Hiperlan. This paper presents an introduction to both projects focussing on the applied access schemes. Fyrther we will present our simulation results, analyzing the performance of both access protocols depending on the number of stations and on the packet size, evaluating them regarding their capability to support QoS parameters, regarding the impact of hidden terminals and their range extension strategy.

Wireless LANs Jost Weinmiller, Hagen Woesner, Adam Wolisz Electrical Engineering Department Technical University Berlin, Sekr. FT5 Einsteinufer 25, 10587 Berlin, Germany Abstract 1The MAC-part of the upcoming IEEE 802.11 standard for wireless LANs named DFWMAC 2 is based on a CSMA/CA-type access protocol with a rotating backo window and an optional RTS/CTS message exchange. In this paper, follo...

Analyzing and Tuning the Distributed Coordination Function in the IEEE 802.11 DFWMAC Draft Standard

The upcoming standard for wireless LANs DFWMAC1 developed by the IEEE2 802.11 working group consists of two parts the distributed coordination function DCF that is based on a contention scheme and the point coordination function PCF based on a contention free scheme. The DCF is CSMA/CA like access protocol with several extensions. In this paper, following a short presentation of the elements in...

A survey on emerging broadband wireless access technologies

Wireless broadband technologies provide ubiquitous broadband access to wireless users, enabling services that were available only to wireline users. In this paper, we summarize emerging wireless broadband access technologies, ranging from WLANs to satellite communications. We explain the latest standards in the IEEE 802.11 and IEEE 802.16 families in detail. The MAC layer mechanisms of IEEE 802...

Performance Analysis of Interconnections of Ieee 802.11 Networks with Other Networks

Wireless LANs coming into existence about 10 years ago and up to this time the number of total wireless devices grows up to 1 million. IEEE 802.11 is the new wireless networks standard that was finished and standardized in 1997. The physical layer and MAC described in standard allow us to achieve wireless connectivity between moving, portables and fixed stations within a certain area called BSA...
